BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Provence in France. As a child, Patrick Bancel spent more of his time studying science and mathematics rather than drawing and painting. Nonetheless, he has been painting since the age of five. Self-taught, he first trained himself in the classic manner, by copying the masters, old and new: the Flemish painters, Boucher, Michelangelo, Murillo, Ingres, Renoir, Monet, Derain, Matisse, Vlaminck, Picasso, Miro, Magritte, Dali, Rothko. He then moved on to models (with his right hand, he painted his first model — his left hand). He subsequently studied false wood and marble copies for six months at the Van der Kelen Superior Painting Institute in Brussels. Upon graduation, he was awarded a medal of honor with Jurys distinctions, and went on to spend a year as assistant to the director of the Institute. He also studied at the Ateliers des Beaux Arts de Paris in France. Since then, under the aegis of the most famous European decorators and Americain Designers, he has painted trompe l’oeil in apartments, houses, and palaces for a demanding and discriminating clientele, from Toronto to Tokyo, from Saoudi Arabia to Spain. His personal works are also displayed in art galleries and museums in Europe and the United States. All together his paintings are in more than 25 countries Today, Patrick BANCEL lives in Westchester, New York, but still spend a lot of time in Paris or Provence or in Saint Tropez. He is open his own company in USA. This web site www.atrompeloeil.com is entirely dedicated to his decorative painting work. Another web site for his Art on canvas www.patrickbancel.com.
